Sanyo's (hybrid Momo & aSi) HIT Panels Installed in Long Beach

SANYO North America Corp. says that Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif., has opened a new parking structure on campus featuring approximately 400 kW of  SANYO's HIT Power solar panels.

Excess power being generated by the SANYO panels will be used by adjacent buildings on campus. The solar system is expected to produce approximately 59 MWh per month, which should offset approximately 9% of adjacent buildings' overall electricity needs, according to SANYO.

SANYO North America Corp. has announced the availability of the HIT Power 225A solar module in the U.S. This is the most efficient HIT Power solar module launched to date in the U.S.

The 225A panel offers integrators and installers independently certified cell conversion efficiencies of 20.2% and module efficiencies of 17.8%, the company says. The new panels are available from SANYO-certified dealers starting immediately.

New Sanyo Hybrid Solar Panels Reach 20.7% Efficiency

Sanyo is a major manufacturer of solar panels, with three factories in Japan, one in Hungary serving Europe, and a fifth in Mexico that serves the US market. The N series of modules are produced in Japan and consist of solar cells of the Hetero-junction with Intrinsic Thin-layer (HIT) type.

HIT solar cells contain a single thin crystalline wafer of silicon surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous layers of silicon. They are characterized by high efficiency at high temperatures, and increased output power even during high summertime temperatures. The high conversion efficiency of HIT cells means more capacity can be installed compared to conventional crystalline silicon solar cells.

The new N230 solar cell module is claimed to have an energy conversion efficiency of 20.7 percent, which makes it the most efficient solar module produced so far. The unprecedented efficiency was achieved by increasing the number of solar cell tabs from two to three and making each tab thinner. They also applied AG coated glass to the cells, and this reduces the amount of scattering and reflection of light. The increase in energy conversion efficiency could make the solar modules useful in areas with less than ideal amounts of sunshine.

Sanyo is already one of the leading manufacturers of solar cells and modules, and the company is currently expanding its solar cell module production at Kaizuka City and Ohtsu City in Japan in response to increased demand. In total Sanyo plans to nearly double its HIT solar cell production from the current level of 340 MW to 600 MW by March next year.

National and local installation subsidies in Japan have seen the local market expand rapidly, and this has also been helped by the national government’s new program for purchasing surplus electricity generated by solar installations.
The 230W model N230 and 225W N225 will both be officially launched in Japan in autumn this year and in Europe in 2011.

SANYO Brings More HIT High Efficiency PV Modules to Europe

Exclusive launch of new modules for European Market at Intersolar 2010.

SANYO Component Europe GmbH has recently announced that it will be showcasing a new range of high efficiency HIT modules at this year’s Intersolar, to be held from June 9th through June 11th at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Germany (Stand 170 in Hall A6). Keeping with SANYO’s tradition for presenting a fun and interactive exhibition experience, this year also sees the introduction of a new host of attractions to be featured alongside these new products.

SANYO’s HIT modules are highly appreciated in Europe thanks to their industry leading energy conversion efficiency. The modules are based on thin mono crystalline silicon wafers surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layers to deliver a superior conversion efficiency, outstanding temperature characteristics and higher output power on a given roof area compared to conventional crystalline modules. These new modules see these characteristics taken a step further to provide added cost efficiency to users in Europe.

Not keep to stop there, SANYO will also be introducing a pioneering energy solution “Smart Energy System (SES)” that utilizes its expertise in the fields of energy generation, energy storage and energy efficiency. Through advancements in the method of harnessing the suns power to address our day-to-day energy needs, this solution is expected to contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions in Europe.

To meet the European markets growing needs, SANYO has continued to invest in its production facilities for photovoltaic products. This year alone, the module assembly plant in Hungary will undergo an expansion that will see output capacity increase from 165MW to 315MW, making SANYO well equipped to react quickly to the European market.
